“Griz, Cats fans create online forums for debate, gossip”
This year, egriz.com, an online fan forum dedicated to Grizzly athletics, celebrated its 10th anniversary by surpassing 10,000 members. It’s a place where UM fans, using often anonymous screen names, debate Grizzly and Bobcat football, talk trash, gossip and argue about referee calls, recruits and coaching decisions.
Chris Lynn, 29, is one of those devoted Griz fans who 10 years ago launched egriz.com from his MSU dorm room. The Spokane native had to build an online site for a web design class and decided on a Grizzly fan site to stay connected with other UM fans while going to school in Bobcat country.
Despite the 10 hours a week or more that Lynn devotes to maintaining, improving and monitoring the website, he still views egriz.com as a hobby. That’s why he has no problem making little to no profit off the site. The ads on the site cover the cost of the server space.
