Living in Missoula, Montana has it’s perks, and fly fishing Rock Creek is definitely one of them. Rock Creek is a blue ribbon trout stream within 30 minutes of town and offers great floating in the earlier part of the season and great wade fishing throughout. The scenery is as picturesque as it comes and the trout are pretty abundant. The salmon fly hatch up here is absolutely stunning and is about as fun as fly fishing can get, at least in my experience. This trip we started off fishing different areas of the lower creek and were pretty successful. Anywhere from small fish (still fun) to good size 16 and 17 inch cutthroats. I am looking forward to hitting up this stretch of water all summer long and into the fall for the big browns!
